ABOUT ANAM CARA CELTIC STYLE PRAYER BEADS The addition of Celtic style praye beads to Anam Cara-Dallas was inspired by the good people at Sacred Art of Living in Bend, Oregon who asked me to design for them a set of prayer beads that was similar to those used by the ancient Celts. Anam Cara Celtic prayer beads consist of 150 beads, separator beads between sets of 50 beads, and a pendant. These beads can be used with chants or mantras but can be adapted beautifully to a variety of prayer styles. The last set of "50" beads can be used for complete silence, leading to contemplation. Monks who lived in the monasteries traditionally recited the 150 psalms. The illiterate lay people who wanted to follow this discipline but could not read or memorize all 150 psalms began using a prayer rope with 150 knots. Later they strung 150 crude little stones and used these to count their prayers. You can find some chants to get you started on the following website: http://www.ceilede.co.uk/the_fonn.htm Anam Cara Celtic Beads are made with natural horn beads. They are lighter weight than stone or glass and are not cold to the touch. All Celtic Prayer Beads come with a wonderful natural color 100% coltton drawstring pouch (these pouches are pre-washed in scent and color free detergent). Handsewn, festive, lined pouches with drawstring may also be purchased separately for $12.
